Anzir

[Back]

Anzir is a small village near Kansk.  I was the first American visitor to this Village and this is where I found out what the hospitality of Russia meant.  A great reason to travel with a Russian Personal Guide.  Kseniya knew through her relations many people across Russia; there I was able to really understand Russia through her eyes. Picture with her Grandmother, Nina.

School at Anzir

Without the person between Kseniya and I (Galina) the Russian journey may have never been.  We are visiting the teacher of Kseniya's mother, Olga.  This is where Olga began her English lessons.  Olga then moved to Irkutsk to college and the rest is history. Ogla presently has a linguistic school in Amursk.

Power Plant of Anzir

Sergei, Kseniya's uncle, is in charge of the local power plant in Anzir.  It was not that cold when we were there in September; therefore, I was not asked to shovel much more than a ton of coal in the furnace.  The village has a central heating plant to provide hot water to various public buildings.

Saw Mill in Anzir

Every village that I visited had a saw mill.  The forest  in Russia are abundant and the saw mills provide the local people with all their rough saw lumber.

Early Morning Scene in Anzir

On an early morning walk I saw a beautiful scene of a local villager bringing hay to his house.  Most of the Village houses were surrounded in back and side by their farm animals.  The milk cows are allowed to roam freely about the village for grass.

Getting Drinking Water for the Family

The water supply is available in front of the houses.  Each house had supplies of coal out front for the winter months ahead.
