Saint Nicolas church is situated 500 meters from Lake Baikal. According to the legend at the beginning of the 19th century Ksenofont Serebryakov (Russian merchant) tried to cross Baikal Lake. There was a terrible storm on the lake. The merchant prayed for saving and sent his prays to St. Nicolas - a protector of navigators. Ksenofont saw St. Nicolas hurrying to help him. Being very thankful for his saving, Ksenofont Serebryakov promised to build a temple on this place in honor of the great wonderworker.

The construction had been started and finished after merchant's death by his wife Natalie. In 1846 at the source of Angara River a church made of logs had been built. Soon after it was transferred on the shore of Lake Baikal. In 1957 in connection with the construction of the Irkutsk H-E Power Station the church was transferred again. The history of the temple is closely connected with Siberia. Many people, Russian and Mongolian have prayed in it. In the 1960s the church was restored. There are many icons in this church, some of them are from the other churches of Irkutsk.

Church service is held regularly.
